GLOBELICS 2012 CALL FOR PAPERS
The 10th GLOBELICS International Conference
Theme: Innovationand Development: Opportunities and Challenges in Globalisation
The conference organizing committee invitessubmission of full papers by 31 May 2012. Papers are to be submitted via thewebsite http://www.som.zju.edu.cn/niim/globelics.
GLOBELICS is an international network ofscholars who work on "learning, innovation, and competence buildingsystems" (LICS) as their framework and are dedicated to the strengtheningof LICS in developing countries, emerging economies and societies intransition. The research aims at locating unique systemic features as well asgeneric good practices to enlighten policy making relating to innovation,competence building, international competitiveness, regional development, labourmarket and human capital development. In an increasingly global andknowledge-based competition, management strategies need to be based upon anunderstanding of these framework conditions and the public policies which seekto regulate the environment.
GLOBELICS has regional chapters in Asia,Africa and Latin America. Apart from providing training for PhD scholarsthrough the Academy at Lisbon and Tampere GLOBELICS organizes annualconferences. Until now nine GLOBELICS conferences have been organized. Thefirst conference was held in 2003, at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, it was followedby the second conference at Beijing, China (2004), the third conference atTshwane (Pretoria), South Africa (2005), the fourth in Trivandrum, India(2006), the fifth in Saratov, Russia (2007), the sixth in Mexico City, Mexico(2008), the seventh in Dakar, Senegal (2009), the eighth in Kuala Lumpur,Malaysia (2010), and the ninth in Buenos Aires, Argentina. All nine conferenceswere attended by leading scholars in the field from both the developed anddeveloping worlds.
The Tenth Globelics Conference will serveas a platform for interactive learning between scholars from the North, West,South and East, so as to enrich and enhance the quality of innovation studiesin relation to development and growth in the context of globalization and acceleratingpace of change. The 10th GLOBELICS International Conference will be organizedaround the following topics:

The conference will mark the fact that thisis the 10th Globelics conference with a lecture in honour of CristopherFreeman. The lecture will begiven by Carlota Perez, London School of Economics.
Both senior and junior scholars will beinvited to participate and contribute with a paper to the conference. Inparticular, the active participation of young scholars (Ph.D.-students andscholars who have finished their Ph.D. within the last five years) fromdeveloping countries will be encouraged.
As has been the case for the earlier Globelics Conferences, high quality papers will be recommended to a number of leading journals in the field.
Acceptance of participation is based on areview by the Conference Scientific Committee upon novelty, academic qualityand relevance to the themes of the conference, and accepted paper writers willbe informed by 30 July, 2012.
Full papers must be submitted in English and should be written with Times New Roman font type size 12 with 1.5 line spacing. Foreign words should be in italics. The length should not be more than 8,000 words (including tables, figures, notes, references and appendices) or 25 pages. The paper should include an abstract not exceeding 200 words, describing the purpose of the research, the principal results and major conclusions. The format of manuscript must follow the Author Guidelines of GLOBELICS Conference 2012.
Ph.D. students from developingcountries may apply to the PhD students' paper competition. This competition is for Ph.D. studentswith their main institutional connection within a developing country; the papershave to be authored exclusively by the candidate (co-authored papers will beevaluated as regular submissions). Winners will receive a small grant tosupport their research and a diploma. In order to participate in thiscompetition, full papers should be submitted 30 April, 2012, to www.som.zju.edu.cn/niim/globelics.
All participants whose papershave been accepted will be provided with local hospitality for three days(November 8-10). The delegatesshould be prepared to pay for all the other expenses in the hotel such as minibar, telephone, laundry, etc. and outside such as the city tour and othersocial events.
The Globelics Board is trying to mobilizeresources for providing travel support for paper presenters from developingcountries. More information on how to apply will be made available at theconference website in due time.
